December 23, 2007, was a terrible day for Toni. On that day, she was shot multiple times in a homophobic attack. She spent six months recovering in hospital and was left paralyzed. After this devastating assault, she wasn’t sure if any of her dreams would ever be possible.

But, with the help of Rainbow Railroad, Toni made it to Canada. Now, she is now picking up the pieces of her life and once again able to dream. Toni loves to cook and make people happy through food: one day, she hopes to open a restaurant. Like so many of the folks we have assisted, now that she is out of immediate danger, Toni can now begin to think about what she wants to do with her life.
