Rainbow Railroad’s 2020 Annual Report
Same-sex intimacy is illegal in 69 countries around the world; and in 14 countries, transgender peoples’ gender identity and expression are criminalized. What do these harrowing country-level statistics actually mean for LGBTQI+ people around the globe?
Rainbow Railroad’s 2020 Annual Report is an in-depth exploration of how discriminatory legal regimes impact LGBTQI+ people on an individual human level and how the organization made a difference in 2020. Last year, Rainbow Railroad relocated 75 people to safety across international borders, in spite of border closures due to the pandemic. We also helped an additional 426 people through complementary methods of support – a total of 503 people helped. And, we furthered our advocacy efforts to multiple governments to find more pathways to safety and change laws and policies the world over that discriminate against LGBTQI+ people.
