Zahra is thrilled to join Rainbow Railroad as a Program Officer for Emergency Travel Support and Cash Assistance.
Before arriving in Canada in 2013, Zahra was the captain of the Afghanistan National Soccer team (2010-2013). She is the first licensed female soccer coach in Afghanistan and has served as the Head of the Women’s Committee at the Afghanistan Football Federation (2010-2011). She was awarded a Humanitarian Award from Muhammad Ali in 2013 for her efforts in promoting women’s rights in Afghanistan through sports.
Zahra hold a BA in Hons. International Development Studies from the University of Guelph. Before joining Rainbow Railroad, Zahra worked in the Refugee Resettlement Programs with COSTI Immigrant Services. She was also an Athlete Ambassador for Right TO Play.Having lived experience as a refugee in Iran and Canada and belonging to a marginalized ethnicity in Afghanistan, Zahra is very passionate about human rights and social justice. Zahra loves traveling with her family and watching sports in her free time.
