Derek has over 8 years of diverse clinical and professional experience as a social worker and recreational therapist working with individuals with disabilities, mental illness, and people affected by traumatic events. He has collaborated on research projects including sexual health after spinal cord injury and the neuroscience of visual arts/the impact of art-based interventions on quality of life for brain injury patients. He has also presented at state and national conferences on the topics of providing affirming care to gender and sexual minorities.
Derek completed his Master of Social Work at Adelphi University – New York and strives to bridge his passion for enhancing the well-being and empowerment of marginalized individuals with his commitment to systemic social change. In his free time, you can find Derek relaxing at the beach or park, baking desserts, or going to the theatre.
