Lauren came to Canada in 2015 as an LGBT-identified refugee from Jamaica. She has over 18 years of experience working as a client-facing professional in government and non–profit organizations, most recently as a trained crisis counselor volunteer with Victim Services Toronto, co-chair of the Toronto Police Services Community Consultative Committee, and as a Newcomer Orientation Facilitator at The 519.
Lauren has completed her Diploma as a Social Servicer Worker at Humber College and her Bachelor of Social Work with a minor in Sociology from Toronto Metropolitan University, both with distinction. A trained social worker with expertise in trauma management and crisis intervention who is passionate about the rights, freedom, and well-being of LGBTQI-identified individuals to live their authentic selves and participate equally in society.
Lauren enjoys playing volleyball and football in her spare time and is a HUGE Canadian Men’s Volleyball team fan.
